Basic 1

Class for Beginner

Recommended for people who are new to yoga, or who would like to learn the basics of the alignment-based approach to Yoga. This class explains how to use your own body consciously, which is the foundation of the alignment-based yoga practiced at SHIZEN, and how to use props for this purpose. Standing poses, sitting poses and backbends are practiced in this class.

Basic 2

Basic 2

This class further develops the practice of standing and sitting poses and backbends, and also covers inversions. We provide detailed explanations of the approach to inversions, starting from the basics. This class introduces a wider range of asanas (poses) and more advanced ways to use props, while deepening the skill of turning your consciousness to your body. Breathing exercises may sometimes be practiced.

Intermediate

Intermediate

This class covers a wide range of asanas including standing and sitting poses, inversions and back bends, as well as some challenging poses. Recommended for students familiar with the use of props, and alignment , and the more subtle adjustments to bones, muscles and joints.

Class for beginner Gentle Yoga

Gentle Yoga

Class for Beginner

Gentle Yoga is recommended for people with concerns about age, body stiffness or lack of strength to keep up in regular classes. This class provides an adequate amount of exercise while modifying the content of Basic 1 and 2,. It is also recommended for beginners of yoga. Classes start with an all-around, active practice, then the second half is spent in relaxation of body and mind.

As the class name suggests, the class focuses on relaxing the body and mind, helping recovery from fatigue and relieving tension. In this class, we relieve tensions in the body through longer holding of poses with the support of yoga props. Anyone can attend restorative yoga, including people who feel stressed or fatigued, those who wish to incorporate yoga into the recovery phase from injury or illness, or those who are new to yoga.

This class first encourages the body to relax and relieve tension through supported restorative poses, then reaches inward to let go of accumulated emotions and pressure through breathing exercises and meditation. It is recommended for people who wish to restore health in a stress-ridden autonomic nervous system, those who work hard and tend to neglect their body and mind, or those who are new to yoga.

Prenatal Yoga 産前ヨガ(マタニティヨガ)

Prenatal Yoga

Intended for women in their 14th week of pregnancy or after. No special documents from your doctor are needed. As long as you and your baby are in good health, you may attend classes until your due date. Through the practice of asanas (poses) and breathing, we nurture the strength in body and mind, flexibility and concentration that are necessary throughout pregnancy until giving birth, and that help to reduce the anxiety in labor.

Postnatal Yoga

Postnatal Yoga classes are for mom and baby to attend together, at least 2 months after birth. Mothers can take care of their own body and mind after childbirth while learning how to communicate with their babies through baby massage and other techniques,. These classes offer an opportunity to take a break from the daily challenges of childcare. Mothers are welcomed to breastfeed or change diapers during class.

Special Class

Special ClassSpecial Class

Special classes are offered irregularly to cover more specific content that cannot be sufficiently taught in regular open classes. Topics may include particular themes or parts of body to focus on in our yoga study and practice. These classes are not open for registration and attendance is first come first-serve.

Series Class

Series ClassSeries Class

Series Classes are short-term courses held three times a year (winter, spring-summer and autumn) and require registration in advance. They offer opportunities to study yoga in a more focused, step-by-step manner, with the same instructor and classmates over one term (4 months). We offer 10 to 15 different Series Classes to meet students’ different levels and needs. See our Series Class page for Series Class listing. To register, it is necessary to become a member first (free of charge).
