This newsletter was sent to us from Kausthub Desikachar to share with the yoga community.

The year 2008 heralds many important milestones. It is the 120th birth year of T Krishnamacharya as well as the 70th birth year of TKV Desikachar. Interestingly its also a coincidence that its the 90th birthday of BKS Iyengar. A milestone that is rare… and very special indeed.

To commemorate the special occassion, the KHYF has conceived a special limited edition publication that will honor these grand masters of yoga, who are carrying on the torch lit by T Krishnamacharya. This production will be a pictorial tribute to T Krishnamacharya and his “four-most” students Indra Devi, Pattabhi Jois, BKS Iyengar and TKV Desikachar. It will feature some of the best photographs of these masters, as well as some of the most recent ones which have been shot by Kausthub Desikachar, who is the project editor. Most of the photographs in these books would never have been published before. Since there will be minimal text, it will be appealing to readers of all languages.

Part of the funds of this project will be donated to the KYM building fund, and will be used to help with the construction costs of the new building. A portion of the proceeds will also be used to upgrade the archives department of the KHYF, so that the exisiting archivees can be better preserved for posterity.

When this idea was presented to BKS Iyengar, Pattabhi Jois and TKV Desikachar, they were unanimous in its support. All three allowed Kausthub Desikachat to visit them and photograph them, as well as offered many photographs from their personal archives towards this project. Even the Indra Devi foundation was extremely generous, thanks to its current director David Lifar, who offered many photographs of Mataji Indra Devi. These too will be part of the book. It is a real testament to the affection these masters have to their teacher T Krishnamcharya, as well as to his continued teaching legacy.

No matter what tradition of yoga one follows, this book is sure to inspire the reader, not just with its pictures, but also with the intention of these masters to come together on one platform, and share moments of their life.

The Plan is to bring out an interesting and one-of-its-kind book in about 120 pages in the size of 9.5 by 12 inches. To enhance visual quality, printing will be done on special paper. Since only 2008 copies of this edition will ever be printed, and it is being used as a fund raising project, it will be priced at around €108, which includes shipping by courier only. Bulk orders (10 or more) will entail a 5% discount.

It is expected that the book will be ready latest by November 2008, though we are targeting an earlier date.

The book is sure to be a collector’s item and hence we are confident that it will be sold out before too long. To reserve your copy please email us with all of the following details (Full Name, Full Address including State and Country, Telephone Number and Email Address).
